Best Friends KEITH COKER - ENFA - I think Keith and I were the only two 17 year olds on board, i was 5 days older than him. He was from Sumpter,SC. I went to Sumpter with him a couple of times. We were like brothers. We lost track of each other when we were both transferred. I believe he went to a destroyer, don't know where, and I went to another ASR The USS Kittywake ASR-13 out of Norfolk.
Best Moment Had lots off great moments, Tringa was my first ship and it was on Tringa that I became an engineman striker. I was a non designated striker when I reported on board and the ship needed engineman,so I was put in the engine room, my first job was dis-assembling an 8- 268 A General Motors diesel engine and laying all the parts on a tarp on the pier. Maybe that was one of my best moments.
