Worst Moment
Not for me ,but for the Captain. We hit a DLG while pulling alongside in Rota Spain, and ripped a large hole in their hull. The HT's,shipfitters then, were working all night to repair it. I took some pictures but don't know what happened to them

KEITH COKER - ENFA - I think Keith and I were the only two 17 year olds on board, i was 5 days older than him. He was from Sumpter,SC. I went to Sumpter with him a couple of times. We were like brothers. We lost track of each other when we were both transferred. I believe he went to a destroyer, don't know where, and I went to another ASR The USS Kittywake ASR-13 out of Norfolk.
Best Moment
Had lots off great moments, Tringa was my first ship and it was on Tringa that I became an engineman striker. I was a non designated striker when I reported on board and the ship needed engineman,so I was put in the engine room, my first job was dis-assembling an 8- 268 A General Motors diesel engine and laying all the parts on a tarp on the pier. Maybe that was one of my best moments.
Best Moment
Being 17 years old and my first time on the East. Coast, went to NYC for a week-end. That was 54 years ago,so I don't remember much, except that I didn't have as much fun there as I thought I would.
Worst Moment
Stood my first roving security security watch since boot camp. It was the mid- watch, the barracks I was at didn't have any tenants. I was making my rounds on the second floor and sat down on one of the bunks to rest my feet, my relief woke me up around 3:45. My first month out of boot camp I had my first NJP, - got off easy, 2 weeks restriction and extra duty.
