 Additional Information
Last Known Activity

His final duty station was the Phillipines at Subic Bay Navy Base. He served on the USS Oak Ridge (ARD-19)
1946-1949 and the ATR 7 from 1944 to 1945. It which was built in Boothbay Harbor, Maine at Samples Ship Yard. He stayed at the Hotel Fulton. (This is where the USN put all their sailors and  that is where he met my mom early in his Navy Career,  he was a seaman 3rd class when they met.  Mom was a waitress at the hotel and one morning she served him coffee and he winked at her and that is how it began in 1935.

In 1945  the USS Arkansas BB-33 was shot and sunk at atomic training exercises Dad may have served at one time on this Battleship., (decommissioned)  Records indicate he did serve on the USS Reina Mercedes which was used as a barracks and the USS Pennsylvannia for a number of years before and a 1930 US Census finds him stationed at Norfolk, Virginia Navy Yard.

Stated he got fat in the Phillipines and  stated  due to " Navy Beans. "  He was on the USS Oak Ridge (ARD 19). This was the last three years of his duty to make his twenty.

When he got home to Mom, in 1949 and had retired out,  as they were married in 1946,  March 14,  he lost the weight.    He worked in Rice's ship yard in Boothbay, Maine for one year, then, took a job with the Boothbay Harbor Water System as Superintendant.  He worked the job for eight years and made lots of updates and made year round water for the summer colonies, designed the building to the tower on Mt Piscah which gave that section in Boothbay Harbor water  landscaped the entire area at Adam Pond in Boothbay where the water supply is located.  Stocked the pond for fresh water fishing and ecological purposes.  As well as saw changes from a hand fed pump to an automatic, before that they drilled wells.

The wood stove was removed from the pumping station.   He had it put in his house in Boothbay Harbor.  The station had a heating system update by that time.  He then, went back to work for civil service at the Topsham Air Force Base, Topsham, Maine.  The base is no longer in use by the government.  He retired with twenty five years of honorable service.

His final work was self employment as a Master Plumber and partially retired until he could no longer work due to a heart condition and diabetes in 1975.

Other Comments:
He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. Completed his Masonic work in Maine.. He is sadly missed by his family.   He was a Man of Honor.   He loved my mother so much that he gave up drinking when he came home from the service.  They were married in 1946 and he retired out in Rhode Island 1949.  I never ever saw my Dad drink.
