Dan was a Deck Hand on this ship. This ship is currently in service on the Great Lakes as a bulk freighter. She was originally launched as USS NESHANIC AO-71, a US Navy Fleet Oiler during WWII, earning 9 Battle Stars in the Asiatic/Pacific theater. Some of her battle damage from a 100 ton bomb hit she took on 18, June 1944 is still visible in the aft crew birthing spaces near the Galley.
