ARM2 Delaney was aboard a TBM-1C Avenger piloted by LT George Bush on September 2, 1944. The plane experienced problems when hit by anti-aircraft fire and LT Bush ordered the crew (LTJG William G White and ARM2 Deleaney) to abandon the aircraft. Only two of the men got out of the plane - LT Bush and one other - and it is unknown which other crew member that was. That man's parachute failed to open and the other man went down with the plane. ARM2 Delaney's remains were never recovered and he was later declared dead.
