The BVA was established in 1992 by Beirut veterans who wanted a fraternal organization. They were dedicated to keeping the memories alive of those comrades who paid the supreme sacrifice in supporting America's quest for peace in Lebanon.They chose "The First Duty is to Remember" as their motto. Membership is open to all military members who served in Lebanon and with supporting units at sea, family members of veterans and next of kin. OUR HISTORY:
The History of Lebanon is one of years of violent tumult mixed with centuries of peace. An ancient county, it's roots go back to the first sailors of the world. The United States Marine Corps made it's first visit in 1861 and it's last, very recently in 2006.
I want to hear about individual stories from all our Beirut vets.
Send your stories by email, letters or recorded tapes. I'll be doing some
interviews at this years' Remembrance. But don't count on waiting until then
because time will be limited.
Evi and I have helped a number of folks over the years tell the Beirut story
in print and film... now Evi and I are working on a book for the 30th
anniversary. I hope to incorporate some selected stories and consolidate
others to tell our story as a "docudrama" beginning in 1982 through 1984 ...
and then close with a scene at the Beirut Memorial. It will be based on
facts and real life experiences but written as a novel. Our hope is that
this book may inspire a film so our story will reach a national audience.
I want to hear from Marines from all units from 1082 to 1984.
And I want to hear from the families of those who died and injured.
I can't promise you that all the material will get in the book -- but I can
promise you it won't if you don't send it to me.
