WE MISS HIM STILL
WE MISS HIM STILL He felt that it was his duty to go for the second tour to help the people of Vietnam. He made this decision knowing it was not popular, feeling that it was his duty as a sailor and as an American. He did this in the face of politicians and other American's who made a mockery of this war, made a mockery of those who fought it and thus made a mockery of freedom. It was his hope that someday the Vietnamese would be afforded the right to live in a country free from suppression. He is our hero and we will love him always. William Carl Eckes born Sept. 201940 to Donna H. and William L. Eckes in Dickinson, ND. Oldest brother to Margot, Bridget, Karlin, Mary Jean, Jack and Bob. He was primarily raised in Beach, ND and graduated from Beach High School in 1958. He attended college until 1960 when he joined the service. He was a journalist and worked with Stars and Stripes. He was stationed in Sicily, Iceland, Hawaii, Maryland, and finally went to Vietnam. There he worked with the Armed Forces Combat Motion Picture Team until he was killed in an aircraft crash March 10.1967. "Day is done.Gone the sun. From the lakes. From the hills. From the skies. All is well, Safely rest.God is nigh." The family of WC Eckes(Bill) COMING FROM THE GREAT STATE OF NORTH DAKOTA

A Real Toff
I met Bill the first day, I reported for work as a civilian, in Sigonella, Naval, Air Base, Sicily. During my 4, years, working with the US., Military, I met many fine American, service personnel and it is my honor, to have made friends, with a good number. Bill met my family, in England and stayed over a number of times, welcomed as another son. "A real toff" is one of the finest compliments, that could have been made by a London, "east ender." My late father a "cockney," used this expression about Bill, a rare compliment indeed. I'am priveleged, to have made such a good friend, viewed as a friend, by Bill and have met his wonderful family in Beach, after his untimely death. Never forgotten Bill, never forgotten. To the Uncle I never met
Though I never had a chance to meet I love you. I am proud you are my uncle. Whenever I feel life hands me to much, I think of you and draw strength from your bravery. You are always in my heart.
