This photo was taken soon after the Admiral received honors from Her Majesty the Queen. Bestowed January 1972 - Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE). Admiral Smith helped Britain get their Sub Program up to date to work in congress with other allied powers to keep Nuclear War from happening.
