USS Oklohoma catapult 1923
2 of 8
from  1923-1923, USS Oklahoma (BB-37)  album
'All United States vessels of war will be equipped at once with hydroplane catapults, it was revealed at the harbor today by Lieut.- Commander Newton H. White, aviation officer of Admiral Robert E. Coontz' staff. The feasibility of the catapult, which was only an idea a year ago, was demonstrated by Lieut.- Commander White yesterday when, with his fellow pilot, Lieutenant Council, he was shot from the catapult aboard the U.S.S. Oklahoma into a cross wind, flew out to meet the California as that man-o'-war steamed into the Los Angeles Harbor, California, and returned again to the Oklahoma without mishap.'
