Shown in this undated contributed photo, Rear Admiral Charles A. Curtze, 96, died at his Millcreek Township home on Dec. 26. Curtze, an Erie native and a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, qualified as a gymnast in the 1936 Olympics and was on duty in Pearl Harbor during the 1941 Japanese attacks, successfully piloting the one U.S. ship not damaged by the attacks out of the harbor to safety.
