Remember the movie CAR WASH? Funny, sad, good music, all to real. Next week our local car wash, the Los Olivos, will close on December 31st, 2017. It has been there since the 1950's, the current owner has owned it for over 30 years. The hotel next door, with the same name, closed ten years ago and is now apartments. The car wash property was also bought-out by a developer to build more apartment units. -- Like the movie CAR WASH, in many ways they were the same. Not Los Angles, but in Phoenix. Low paying entry level manual labor, they were a hand wash, the old fashion way, for just $3. -- Sign of the times: Not only do we lose an institution, but the shoe-shine stand will also disappear. The last straw for this owner was the increase in the minimum wage. So, a fond farewell... and Thank You. What have you lost in your neck of the woods?
