I remember this ad very well. My father was the sales rep for Hush Puppies in Wisconsin and southern Minnesota. When he tried to get shoe stores to purchase air time to run this ad they said they hated it and wouldn't pay to have it shown.
So, for several years, we made our own commercials in Madison, Milwaukee, La Crosse
and Green Bay. I was in three different versions of our 30 second spots. I didn't think
much about it except every once in a while one of the kids at school would recognize me
and ask me about being on television.
