PLEASE DESCRIBE WHO OR WHAT INFLUENCED YOUR DECISION TO JOIN THE NAVY.
Such a simple question, that involves such a complex answer. I was raised by a single mother back when being a single mom was not the norm but the exception. Growing up my male role models became (oddly enough) the Generals and admirals of the United States. I would ride with Patton, I would be by the side of Nimitz as he did his best to launch a attack at Midway. It was this love of history that led me to come to the decision that I loved my country, not just it's history, but it's future and it's promise to those that lived in the nation. In high school, being the social outcast I found a home in JROTC, and it was there that I was able to fully understand how the Military works. Granted it was not the "real" military, however "soft" it might be when compared to the "real" thing, it gave me a head start.
While I had always wanted to join the US Army, and had actually enlisted (and went to Army Basic), one of the most amazing things that I can recall as a child is seeing my Uncle's uniform when he returned from duty on leave. He was a "AO" and I recall his dress blues as being something amazing. After thinking about the idea of seeing the world, of going places that not many would go I decided that I needed to switch to the USN, which I was able to by going from US Army Reserve, to Active US navy.
