William Johnson, LT - Please describe who or what influenced your decision to join the Navy.
First Leave after Boot Camp
My father served as a Machinist Mate 2nd Class aboard the USS Mississippi BB-41 during WWII. As a result from an early age I developed an interest in the US Navy. I enlisted right out of high school the day before my 18th birthday for a three year "Kidde Cruise" and the rest they say is history. Boot Camp was in San Diego, Company 450 and after contracting Rubella was set back to company 460. Graduated Boot in November 1964. Retired Oct 31, 1984.
