Sandy and I are long time members of "Teams Of Our Lady" TOOL. A family oriented small faith group. www.teamsofourlady.org/ We first joined in 1982 and took a few years off recently as we moved about the country, and are now once again active in a new TEAM here in Richmond. Our daughter and her husband actually belong to the TEAM we began in, none of the former members remain.
Sandy is a part of PEO, Philanthropic Educational Organization, www.peointernational.org/ an awesome group doing great things.
Myself, I am looking to cleaning the mess that I have been accumulating over the years. I would like to digitize my photos, a couple of thousand slides "O boy!" More prints than that..task 1. Number 2 work or restablishing myself as a coin collector. Don't know how that will work? Now that so much is available in music, I can build my personal libray. Lots to do!

Reflections on PO1 Novak's
US Navy Service
|
|
|
TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE, WHAT INFLUENCED HIS/HER DECISION TO JOIN THE NAVY?
In 1958, one of our Classmates at Christian Brothers High School in St. Joseph, Mo. started the idea of joining the Navy. By graduation day, he had 8 of us ready to go! We were packed up and shipped to AFEES Kansas City, Mo. Oh, Larry did not go with us!
|
TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE, PLEASE DESCRIBE THE DIRECTION OR PATH HE/SHE TOOK IN HIS/HER MILITARY SERVICE. WHERE DID THEY GO TO BOOT CAMP AND WHAT UNITS, BASES, SHIPS OR SQUADRONS WERE THEY ASSIGNED TO? WHAT WAS HIS/HER REASON FOR LEAVING?
Following SK "A" school in San Diego, was assigned to NAS Memphis! Two years of the good life. With 6 months to go was assigned to the USS Boston! Yeah, bay of pigs! 4 on 4 off! Returned to Boston, enlistment was nearly up, due in July! Made SK2 while on board! Ship was scheduled for a Med cruise! I was given the choice to reenlist or get an early out! I took the out! "LCDR Supply Officer, asked why I did not reenlist! "Commander, I do not want to break your record, of having NO ONE, to reenlist on your watch!

OF ALL THEIR DUTY STATIONS OR ASSIGNMENTS, ARE YOU AWARE OF ANY HE/SHE HAD FONDEST MEMORIES OF AND WHY? WHICH WAS THEIR LEAST FAVORITE?
Wow! 23 years and seemed to enjoy each assignment! Even boot-camp was a fun event, while provided the move from teenager to sailor! Least favorite, pulled out of Bremerhaven due to the Cuban Missile crisis! One month assignment to Receiving Station Brooklyn! No one could find the ship! Assigned to NSA for three months awaiting over haul of our, to be ship! Fun being lose to WDC etc. Moved to New Orleans for outfitting and shipping out. Nice place New Orleans, just too short. Replaced NO with our home port assignment of , Fort Lauderdale, Fla! Ship board was on an MSTS ship, with a civilian crew, :) ate at a rate of $2.85 per day compared to the $1.40 per day for regular Navy! Sailors in paradise. Civilians did every thing for us! :)
