Reflections on SCPO Dodd's US Navy Service

 Reflections On My Service

TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE, WHAT INFLUENCED HIS/HER DECISION TO JOIN THE NAVY?
I joined the Navy one day before I received my greeting from the president letter.
TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE, PLEASE DESCRIBE THE DIRECTION OR PATH HE/SHE TOOK IN HIS/HER MILITARY SERVICE. WHERE DID THEY GO TO BOOT CAMP AND WHAT UNITS, BASES, SHIPS OR SQUADRONS WERE THEY ASSIGNED TO? WHAT WAS HIS/HER REASON FOR LEAVING?
After my first hitch I went to see the Army recruter because I was facing sea duty. He is the real reason I stayed in the Nave because he wanted to bust me to E-4 and send me to the Army boot camp.
IF HE/SHE PARTICIPATED IN ANY MILITARY OPERATIONS, INCLUDING COMBAT, HUMANITARIAN AND PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS, TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE, PLEASE DESCRIBE THOSE YOU FEEL WERE THE MOST SIGNIFICANT TO HIM/HER AND, IF LIFE-CHANGING, IN WHAT WAY.
I was never in combat actions but we had several planes shot at in the gulf during the Iraq and Iran war because we were flying at night to let the tankers know if the bad guys were trying to board their ship. I received 1 mont of hazard duty pay for flying with VP-19 as a flight engineer.
OF ALL THE MEDALS, AWARDS, FORMAL PRESENTATIONS AND QUALIFICATION BADGES HE/SHE RECEIVED, WHICH WERE THE MOST MEANINGFUL TO HIM/HER AND WHY?
My air crew wings were the top honor I received because I had to go to Aircrew candidate school in Pensacola, P-3 flight engineer school in Jacksonville and SERE training in San Diego Then I had to pass an open and closed book NATOPS test put a check ride in VP-4 as a flight engineer.
IF HE/SHE SURVIVED MILITARY SERVICE, WHAT PROFESSION(S) DID HE/SHE FOLLOW AFTER DISCHARGE?
After 20+ years in the Navy I started to work in my home town as a production operator making mineral wool insulation. During my 23 years tenure there, I rose to Cupola managed before I retired in February 2013.
HOW EFFECTIVE HAS TOGETHERWESERVED.COM BEEN IN HELPING YOU RECORD YOUR REMEMBERED PERSONS MILITARY SERVICE? DO YOU HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL COMMENTS OR SUGGESTIONS YOU WOULD LIKE TO MAKE?
I has helped to keep me in touch with shipmates and I have been invited to retirements and reunions.
