Reflections on SCPO Martin's US Navy Service

 Reflections On My Service

TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE, WHAT INFLUENCED HIS/HER DECISION TO JOIN THE NAVY?
I woke up on 28 December 1965 with 42 inches of snow on the ground and my best friend has just been recalled into the Navy for missing too many Reserve meetings. Having visited the Recruiter a week before I was given a train, hotel and plane ticket to report to RTC San Diego NLT 2100, 28 DEC for induction. Approving SD AP we were rounded up by the Company Commander's only to be herded like cattle into a group and told to stand on a number outside in the parking lot. We stood on those numbers until car batteries with lights left on went and while we waited to go onto the buses for the RECRUIT Depot well after midnight. It's going to be a long night I'm afraid.

After arriving at the Base we were immediately lined up on a number where they commenced issue linens, and underwear briefs and t-shirts, along with other naval issues.

at 0430 we were marched to breakfast for quick meal before commencing ASVAB Scores for future evaluations.

YO BED Finally.
