POPPY ENLISTED ON JAN. 2. 1949, REPORTED FOR DUTY ON JAN. 12, 1949. TRAINED AT THE GREAT LAKES. AFTER RECRUIT TRAINING WAS BACK AT GREAT LAKES FOR MACHINIST MATE CLASS "A" SCHOOL. UPON COMPLETION OF SCHOOL REPORTED TO U.S.S. CARPENTER FOR PRE COMMISSIONING SHAKE DOWN CRUISE AT NORFOLK, VA

POP WAS A PLANK OWNER OF THE USS CARPENTER, DDE825

POP HAD BEEN TO CUBA, HAITI, JAMAICA, PANAMA CANAL ZONE, HAWAIIAN ISLANDS, MIDWAY ISLAND,, ENIWETOK, MARSHALL ISLANDS, JAPAN, CHINA, OKINAWA, FORMOSA AND KOREA

RETURNED TO PEARL HARBOR AND WAS DISCHARGED ON DECEMBER 19, 1952
