 Additional Information
Last Known Activity:

The 1st Marine Division was reassigned to the far western end of the United Nations line defending a 35-mile line that encompassed the Pyongyang to Seoul corridor. For much of the next year, in what would be termed the "Outpost War", action along this line consisted of small, localized actions because much of the fighting revolved around the holding and retaking of various combat outposts along key pieces of terrain.

Hospitalman Empfield was a medic with Company D, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was Killed in Action while tending wounded comrades in Korea on November 22, 1952. According to a statement by William Robeson, his body was returned to Outpost Vegas, manned by the 7th Marine Regiment at the time. Corpsman Empfield took part in a company sized raid conducted by Dog Company 2/1 while 2/1 was officially in reserve. Credit for information: Richard Payne

By WILLIAM J. ROBSON
I knew him briefly. He was a new fellow corpsman with D-2-1, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was killed by small arms fire while bravely doing his duty. Another corpsman by the name of Filliburti, myself and six Marines carried his body and a badly wounded Marine back in as far as COP Vegas. We returned well after daybreak from a company-sized raid that had gone rather badly. We were the last group back.
