For all,
Effective 3 August, 2007 I retired from the state of FL as a DVOP (Disabled Vet outreach Program Vet rep), currently working 7 days a week to remain fully retired in our home in Florida.
We welcome former shipmates to give us a shout, as desired!
Best Friends RPOC Roger Walker; We both ended up in pre-flight in Pensacola. Roger went on to fly on carrier attack aircraft and I became a multiengine Navigator. We had a great time in Basic!
Best Moment Drill hall graduations every week. Our Special companies were superb! The Band, Blue Jacjets Choir and the Drum & Bugle Core were always inspirational!
Worst Moment Fire drill at midight in Camp Porter..Luckily a shipmate thought quickly and shared his blanket with me when I was standing in the cold, snowy night-shiuvering! That was my first experience in knowing the value of a shipmate! I never forgot this experience! Subsequently, I made it my goal to "be a shipmate" ang reach out to others by example!!
Instructors SM1 Cornelius J. English was our CC and we were his first company to lead through Basic Training. His leadership style was more of a mentor/coach that inspired the entire company! We all respected him greatly!
Other Memories Joined the Blue Jacket Choir during Basic Training. This was the finest Choir I have ever been priviliged to be a member of!! Following Choir practice, we would march to the cadence of our heels digging into the snowy covered streets of Camp Porter in 4 part harmony!! The power of our singing reverberated through the cold night! "Anchors Aweigh" was our favorite!!
