Eugene, 83, of Harrison, formerly of Carson City, MI passed away on Monday, at the Carson City Hospital. He was born to Floyd H. and Wilma (Hummel) Goodell.
Eugene first entered military service in 1944 when he served with the U.S. Navy for two years, stationed in Virginia and aboard the USS Auburn in the Pacific. He returned to Carson City and graduated from Carson City High School in 1947. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in August 1950 and retired 20 years later as a Tec. Sgt. At the time of his retirement he was connected with the 1972nd Communications Squadron at DaNang Air Force Base in Vietnam.
Having served in Vietnam for 12 months, he had previously spent 12 months in Korea, 24 months during World War II, 12 of which were in the Pacific Theater.
Sgt. Goodell's overseas assignments included being stationed on the island of Aduk in the Aleutian Islands; the Philippines; Labrador; Korea and Vietnam.
Among his decorations earned in military service are the Air Force Good Conduct Medal; WWII Victory Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Korean Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; United Nations Service Medal with the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Eugene enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #380.
