Michael Sergio Sr., age 91 years, of Brockton, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, after a period of failing health. He was the loving husband of the late Anna L. (Thomas) Sergio of 66 years, who died Jan. 24, 2012. Born Saturday, Nov. 6, 1920, in Brockton, he was the son of the late Matio and Filomena (Allegro) Sergio. Michael was a lifelong resident of Brockton and a 1938 graduate of Brockton High School. He worked in the Brockton area for 40 years as a machinist and served in the U.S. Navy, World War II from 1940-1946 and received a Bronze Star while serving on the Submarine USS Spadefish. He was a member of the Holbrook Sports Man Club and the Beaver Brook Beagle Club. He raised birddogs and Beagles with his son Michael Jr. for over 40 years and hunted birds and rabbits with his birddogs and Beagles. They also competed with their Beagles across the United States and made 11 field champions. He was also an avid vegetable gardener for many years and was a lifelong communicant of St. Colmans Church. He is survived by three children Michael Sergio Jr. and his wife Patricia of East Bridgewater, Stephen Sergio and his wife Jo of Springfield, Va., and Alice Jacobson and her husband Eric of Milford; four grandchildren, Jennifer Knick, Molly Rickard, Natasha Jacobson and Thomas Jacobson; two great-grandchildren, Victoria Knick and Kaylie Knick; two brothers, Charles Sergio and his wife Anne of Brockton and John Skip Sergio and Connie of Brockton; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late James Sergio and the brother of the late Samuel Sergio, Joseph Sergio, Angie Smith, Annie Short, Josephine Manson, Irene Roche and Helen Izzo. A Mass of Christian burial will take place Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. in Christ the King Church in Brockton. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery in Brockton. Visitation will take place Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, from 4-7 p.m. in the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 647 Main St., Brockton. For additional information, please visit www.d-mfh.com.
