- NASA Astronaut and a Mission Specialist on the Space Shuttle Columbia Mission STS-107. CAPT Brown was killed when the craft disintegrated during re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere, 01 FEB 2003

Career Highlights
- Began Naval Career as a Flight Surgeon, and in 1988 was the first Flight Surgeon in 10 years to be selected for Pilot Training.
- Navy Operational Flight Surgeon of the Year -1986
- Designated a Naval Aviator in 1990, ranking number one in his class.
- Qualified to fly the A-6 Intruder, F/A-18 Hornet, and T-38 Talon
- His tour with NTPS was a duel role as the Flight Surgeon and Pilot.
Namesakes:
- Brown Hall in the Columbia Village Apartments, at the Florida Institute of Technology is named in his honor.
- Laurel B. Clark & David M. Brown Aerospace Medicine Academic Center at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute.
