Collision Kills Farmington Pair
April 28, 2005
Journal Staff Reports
State Police responded to a fatal collision on U.S. 550, 15 miles south of Cuba on Sunday evening.
A Farmington couple, 58-year-old Gilford Strickland and 54-year-old Ethel Strickland, died at the scene, said State Police Spokesman Lt. Jimmy Glascock.
He said icy road conditions led to the accident, which occurred about 7:10 p.m.
"The Stricklands were traveling northbound in a 2004 Ford Ranger pickup when Mr. Strickland lost control of the vehicle," Glascock said. "It crossed into the path of a southbound semi and went under its trailer. They both died at the scene."
Glascock said the accident forced the closure of the highway for several hours.
The semi was driven by 53-year-old Lenn McQuintty of Aztec, Glascock said.
