Served on SS Windrush as Signalman for Naval Armed Guard. Wind Rush in convoy SC 83 was (owned by the Shepard Steamship Co.) http://www.warsailors.com/convoys/sc83.html and he sailed to the UK in May 1942 (from NY) and that after sailing to Russia, he returned on the 'Wind Rush' to the US in convoy ON 166. December 1943 the voyage to Murmansk in convoy JW 51A (outbound) and RA 52 (return) and Murmansk in convoy Convoy SC 83. The SS Windrush :
Was a steel ship that Dad sailed to Africa, Cape town, Mombasa, The Red Sea, Aden, Port Elizibeth, around 1940. Dad tells stories of seas so rough they had to tie themselves in there bunks. When the ship was in the bottom of the swells the ship was almost covered in water, and when it would reach the crest of the swells the propellers would come out of the water and shake the whole ship.
