Friendship Treaty aboard the USS Missouri

A ceremony was help aboard the USS Missouri at which many of the survivors of the attack on Pearl Harbor met with some of the Japanese pilots involved in the attack. The Japanese asked for forgiveness and it was given. When asked "Do you forgive the Japanese?" and "How does it feel to be here?", Pat Duncan answered: "It was so long ago. They were just following orders like we were. I can't speak for all the Pearl Harbor survivors, and especially the ones that didn't survive. I certainly can't speak for them. They are the real heroes. But I am honored to be here today."
