When he reported aboard the USS Raleigh, Pat Duncan was one of three buglers. He stood watch on the quarterdeck with the Officer of the Deck or on the bridge and used short musical calls to communicate orders. In November, he started working with the navigation department and stood most of his watches on the bridge.
Battle stations assigned: - 1st was on starboard 3-inch gun loading ammunition - summer of 41 he was a .50 machine gunner - in the fall of 41 he became the Captain's orderly
His buddies onboard nicknamed him Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy because he liked the song so much.
