Last Known Activity:
CGM Sullivan's assignments and war service in the Philippines after September 30, 1941 is mostly unknown. The date was the last available from the muster rolls of USS S-40 (SS-145). It is unknown where he was next stationed, but it is known from the records of WWII POWs that he was present at the fall of Corregidor, Philippines and was captrued by the Japanese. Other official sources state he was one of the 1619 Prisoners of War transferred on December 13, 1944 from Bilibid Prison near Manila to the Japanese passenger ship Oryoku Maru. He death date is listed as December 15, 1944 when the Oryoku Maru was damaged and sunk by U.S. Navy carrier aircraft while it was anchored off the Olongapo Naval Reservation, a U.S. Navy base captured by the Japanese in 1942. His remains were not recovered and he was later declared dead.
