Lieutenant Chick was the pilot of a F4U-4 Corsair fighter with Fighter Squadron 113 aboard the aircraft carrier USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CV-47). On July 4, 1952, he was on a strafing run when his aircraft was hit by small arms fire and crashed into a mountain. His remains were not recovered.
