Last Known Activity:
John Hill was born on August 13, 1912, the son of Stephen and Elma Markley. He attended Central Collge in Fayette, MO and graduated on May 31, 1938 and was ordained as a pastor in the Methodist church. He pastored the Sierra Vista Methodist Church in Fresno, CA until he was commissioned into the Navy on October 30, 1942.
His active duty naval career spanned three wars - WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. During WWII he performed chaplain duties aboard ships and also on the ground. In 1958, he was again on board a ship as a chaplain. Much of the rest of his career in the Navy Reserve had him assigned to Naval Districts within the United States in which he performed his duties wherever he was called to do so.
After retiring from the Navy in 1973, Capt Markley first pastored at Tranquility Methodist Church and San Joaquin Methodist Church, both in California.
