A military memorial service will be held Wednesday for Navy Aviation Mechanic 3C. Terry Lee Beck, 23, of Linesville, who was lost in the Gulf of Tonkin off Vietnam, Oct. 2, 1969, when the plane in which he was traveling crashed and sank.
In the Navy since March 1966, he was serving his second tour of duty in Vietnam, returning there in August. He was enroute to Japan for a period of shore duty according to a letter he wrote to his family before leaving Vietnam. The letter was received yesterday. Twenty-five other persons perished in the crash.
Airman Beck was born in Linesville Jan. 11, 1946, a son of Andrew and Betty Gehring Beck. He married the former Frances Jablonski Dec. 31. 1966.
Prior to entering the Navy he was employed by the North American Rockwell Corp. at Ashtabula, Ohio. He was a 1964 graduate of Linesville-Conneaut-Summit High School and was a member of St. Philip's Roman Catholic Church at Linesville.
Surviving are his widow; a son, Danny Lee, 16 months; his parents of Linesville; a brother, Robert of Meadville; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gehring of Linesville, and several aunts and uncles.
The military service and celebration of Requiem High Mass will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Philip's with the Rev. Fr. Bernard Webber, pastor, officiating.
