Lawrence Everett Poulin was a Fireman, First Class in the Navy during World War II. Lawrence was captured by Imperial Japan while serving in the Philippine Islands, and was sent to Tokyo POW Hospital near Shinagawa, Yokohama, Japan where 50 other American POWs were held. Lawrence's capture was first reported to the International Committee of the Red Cross on May 6, 1942, and the last report was made on September 14, 1945. Based on these two reports, Lawrence was imprisoned for at least 1,227 days (3 years and ~5 months), one of the longest durations of captivity recorded. Ultimately, Lawrence was returned to military control, liberated or repatriated.
