Kevin Richard Ebbert Kevin R. Ebbert was killed in action in Afghanistan on Saturday November 24, 2012. Kevin was born January 23, 1980, and grew up in Arcata. As a boy he loved backpacking, rafting, drawing and the outdoors. As a young adult he played Ultimate Frisbee, was an accomplished musician, loved learning and was an avid reader throughout his life. Kevin grew into a caring man who practiced his values, lived by his ideals and was committed to helping others. Kevin graduated from Arcata High School, received a bachelor's degree in music from UC Santa Cruz and became an active duty Navy SEAL and corpsman. He hoped to build on his training as a corpsman to pursue a career as a physician. On December 31, 2011, Kevin married Ursula (Jansson) Ebbert, also from Arcata. The couple shared a love of the outdoors, recently purchased their first home in Virginia Beach, VA and enjoyed many family gatherings. Kevin is survived by his wife, Ursula Ebbert, his mother Charlie Jordan and sister Samantha Ebbert Martinez, as well as stepsisters Amy Funk and Kate Renner, stepfather Mark Ritz, mother-in-law Susan Jansson, father-in-law Erik Jansson, and grandfathers Richard Ebbert and James Jordan. He was preceded in death by his father Jeffery Ebbert, a retired Navy SEAL, and both grandmothers, Patricia Ebbert and Marie Jordan Barnes. A memorial service to honor Kevin's life will be held Sunday, December 9th from 12PM-2PM in the Humboldt State University Kate Buchanan room, with a reception to follow until 4PM. The family invites the Arcata community to join them in celebrating Kevin's life and service to our country. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to: the "Kevin Ebbert Memorial Fund" established through the Humboldt Area Foundation: www.hafoundation.org/ or to the Navy SEAL Foundation: http://www.navysealfoundation.org.
