"Our Gang"

Laurie and Keith - Your dad was a year older than I and a grade ahead of me in school when we grew up together as 'town kinds' in Wakonda. We never tired of playing cops/robbers, cowboys/indians, and especially pirates with wooden swords we'd carve from old lumber. Most of us chose pine since it was relatively soft and easy to carve. But your dad had a 'magic' sword that would literally destroy all our 'blades' in our whacking sword fighting play. He finally admitted that his dad had helped him fashion his 'blade' from OAK! We never had a chance against that. Guess he was always thinking NAVY. We'd ride our bikes 4+miles out to the Vermillion river to go fishing every chance we got. Plus swimming in the old Wakonda pool, boy scouting with Reverend Hackney, and playing Legion sponsored baseball in the summers in addition to High School sports when school was in session. He was a great buddy and friend all those years and I'll always remember him with fondest regards. God bless you.
