ATHENS, Calvin F. Eskew, 81, of Athens, passed away peacefully Friday evening, February 27, 2009 at the home of his sister and brother-in-law Jolene and Sandy Pennington on Halls Ridge Road in Princeton.
Born September 26, 1927 at Hilltop, he was the son of the late Josie Butler Eskew and Carl F. Eskew. Calvin was a graduate of Athens High School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Hillis Eskew, who gave his life for his country on the submarine Albacore in World War II. Calvin proudly served his country in the Army Air Force in World War II.
He was formerly employed by Ford Motor Company in Flint, Mich. and retired from Rosens Baking in Chicago, Ill. Upon returning to Athens, he enjoyed working on the family farm.
He is survived by two sisters, Sunshine (Susan) Gabriel of Halls Ridge Road in Princeton, and Jolene Pennington and husband Sandy, also of the Halls Ridge Road in Princeton; nieces, Dr. Linda Pennington of Huntington, Dr. Pam Faulkner and husband Ben of Princeton; nephews, Dr. Dan Gabriel and wife Jennifer of McMurray, Pa., Gene Gabriel and wife Denise of Vinton, Va., Dr. Bob Pennington and friend Dawn of Wilkesboro, N.C., great-nieces, Julia Gabriel of Virginia Beach, Va., Claudia Sarles and husband Jon of McMurray, Pa., great-nephews whom he dearly loved, Tyler Faulkner, Joseph Pennington and Seth Faulkner; and one great-great-nephew, Colton Sarles. He is survived by his very dear cousins and some wonderful friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. today (Sunday) March 1, 2009 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Archie Bowling and Ben Faulkner speaking. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Princeton. Friends may visit with the family today (Sunday) from 12:30 p.m. until the service hour.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dr. Robert Pennington, Tyler Faulkner, Seth Faulkner, Ben Faulkner, Dr. Dan Gabriel, Gene Gabriel, Willie Butler, and Ray Eskew.
