REUNIONS - USS NORFOLK DL-1

You are invited to come to the 2011 reunion of the USS Norfolk DL-1 to be held in northern Kentucky across the river from Cincinnati from September 22 - 25, 2011. Contact me for detailed information and a Registration Form. You DO NOT have to be a member of the DL Association, but you are encouraged to join us.

2012 Reunion The 2012 reunion was held  in Galveston, Texas, from Sep 10-14.  Thirty three shipmates and guests attended the reunion held at the Hilton Galveston Island Resort Hotel overlooking the Gulf shore.  In addition to a hospitality room available throughout the reunion, there was a Welcome Reception, buffet dinner, auction, three tours, and a closing banquet.  A Memorial Service to missing shipmates was held at the American Undersea Warfare Center, with shipmates seated between WWII submarine USS Cavalla SS/SSK/AGSS-244 and destroyer escort USS Stewart DE-238.  A Memorial Wreath was laid upon the waters of Galveston Bay just forward of the bow of Stewart.  A 90 minute powerpoint presentation was made in the Hospitality Room by CAPT John Rodgaard (U.S.N., Ret.) on the naval career of "Captain Charles Stewart, His Legacy to the Navy and the Nation", which covered the history of the U.S. Navy from 1775 until 1860.  DE-238 is named after Captain Stewart.  We look forward to the 2013 reunion and hope you will join us!

2013 REUNION
The 17th Annual USS Norfolk DL-1 reunion will be in Warwick, Rhode Island, from September  30 to October 3, 2013.  This is a family event for shipmates, spouses, and their guests.  There will be tours to Mystic Seaport & USS Nautilus in Groton CT, to Battleship Cove  (including a Memorial Service aboard USS MassachussettsBB-59) with USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr DD-850, and to Newport, RI with lunch at the Officers Club.  There will be a Hospitality Room, ships store for USS Norfolk items, Welcome Reception, and a closing Banquet.  For a Call to Reunion with details and a Reunion Registration Form, contact:  Bob Godas, 190 N.
