Cyrus Roberts Vance (1917-2002) -- also known as Cyrus R. Vance -- Born in Clarksburg, Harrison County, W.Va., March 27, 1917. First cousin of John William Davis. Served in the U.S. Navy during World War II; lawyer; U.S. Secretary of State, 1977-80. Member, American Bar Association; Council on Foreign Relations; Trilateral Commission. Received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1969. Died, of Alzheimer's disease, at Mt. Sinai Medical Center, Manhattan, New York County, N.Y., January 12, 2002. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
