Additional Information
Last Known Activity:
John retired in Olongapo with his wife, they adopted a lovely Filipina girl and settled into a wonderful life. John was an early riser and one morning his wife awoke to find the bedroom door blocked. After considerable effort she finally was able to get the door opened only to find her dear husband had passed away sometime earlier. His son contacted me while I was recruiting but I could not get him in the Navy from my office. Eventually another District got him in and he was able to sponsor his mother and sister to the US as his dependent.
Other Comments:
A wise and salty Chief I can not tell you how much I learned about Leadership and the honor of being a Chief Petty Officer from him. Men like John Weinel should always be remembered and honored for a life time of service and sacrifice for his country and the Navy. I wish that the Chiefs, Officers and Junior Enlisted of today's Navy could have had the chance to meet this kind of warrior.
