Chose OSU to follow in footsteps of childhood hero Jesse Owens. Despite racism, and general prevailing opinion that blacks could not succeed in advanced doctrine like flight, I was one of only 6 out of 100 Pensacola cadets to graduate and would become America's first black naval aviator.
