William James "Bill" Bradburn, of Clemmons, N.C., formerly of Sheradan and O'Hara, passed away peacefully Monday, May 16, 2011. He was born Sept. 8, 1922. He was the devoted husband of Jocelyn W. Bradburn and the late Ruth M. (Beese) Bradburn; loving father of Pamela (Kevin) Still, Kathleen (Steven) Hurlbut, Susan (Mark) Coleman and Jayne (Gregory) Murphy and stepchildren, Nora (Joe) Richards, Jonathan Ray and Jennifer (Jim) Schneider; and proud grandfather of Cassandra, Kailey, Micheala, Aidan, Jeremy, Nathan, Jonathan, Wilson and Kajsa. He is also survived by his beloved sisters, Ruth Rudawski, Alice B. Williams and Lucille (Ron) Myles; brother, C. Thomas Bradburn; sister-in-law, Maud McCauliffe; cousin, Marilyn (Arthur) Dilg; and many nephews, nieces and great-nephew and nieces who called him "Uncle Billy". He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jane Lonergan; brother, Robert Bradburn; as well as other beloved family members. Bill was a graduate of the class of 1939 at Langley High School. He served in the Navy as engineers mate second class on the Submarine Gato in World War II. He graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and was employed by PPG Industries where he was a senior electrical engineer for the fiberglass division. He spent his retirement volunteering as a golf ranger at Tanglewood Golf Course in North Carolina, was activelyinvolved in the Clemmons Kiwanis Club and with the Nathanael Greene Base of the Tarheel United States Submarine Veterans where he was fondly nicknamed "Gato Bill". He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, golfing and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He will be greatly missed by all. Family and friends will be received from 10 a.m. Sunday, June 19, 2011, at the WEDDELL-AJAK FUNERAL HOME,100 Center Ave., Aspinwall, until a memorial service at 11 a.m., followed by military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Clemmons Kiwanis Club at 7920 Lasley Forest Road, Lewisville, NC 27023, or the NC Tarheel Submariners at 4905 Reidsville Road, Walkertown, NC 27051 (checks made out to WWII Tarheel Chapter).
