Last Known Activity:
I made one WestPac cruise with Bob and we fast became good friends. We were on the Bon Homme Richard together. Also hung out with Jim Steier and Rick Giombetti. Bob's nickname was "Gurr". He was a big man, stood about 6-5, but was as gentle as they come. Gurr had a great sense of humor and he would always brighten up a bad day.
Other Comments:
After the service, I lost touch with Gurr for several years. We did hook up again in the late 1990's. Our families started taking vacations together. One of the highlights of the year was our Navy get together in Las Vegas. We did this every year in mid-April. Several of us still do this trip. Rick Giombetti, Al Larigione, Dave Rasado, Dan Dever and Jim Steier. When we get togther in Vegas, all of us sit around a pocker machine and toast Gurr. That was his favorite game in Vegas, so it's only fitting that is where the toast is made from.
