For past 14 years, been Volunteer Tour Guide on Yorktown at Patriots Point, Charleston, SC
Have decided to make Web page to pass along stories from navy people of WWII, so that their stories do not vanish as we of the Vanishing Generation are doing. Other generations hopefully will read some of their stories, and pass them on.

World War II/American Theater

Description The American Theater was a minor area of operations during World War II. This was mainly due to both North and South America's geographical separation from the central theaters of conflict in Europe and Asia. Thus, any threat by the Axis Powers to invade the mainland United States or other areas was considered negligible, allowing for American resources to be deployed in overseas theaters.
This article includes attacks on continental territory, extending 200 miles (320 km) into the ocean, which is today under the sovereignty of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and several other smaller states, but excludes military action involving the Danish territory of Greenland, the Hawaiian Islands, and the Aleutian Islands. The most well known battles in North America during World War II were the Attack on Pearl Harbor (the first attack on US soil since the Battle of Ambos Nogales), the Aleutian Islands Campaign, the Battle of the St. Lawrence, and the attacks on Newfoundland.

Personal Memories
People You Remember On March 11, 1945,my ship, the U.S.S.Randolph CV15, while at anchor at Ulithi Atoll, in Western Carolines, with TF 58, getting ready for the Okinawa campaign, a Japanese twin engine bomber, we called a Frances, proper name P1Y1, hit us on starboard side, just below flight deck, with 2000# exploding on hangar deck.
Memories It had flown over 1,000 miles with approx. 27 other suicide planes. This one was only one that damaged a ship. Do not know what happened to other 26 planes. One was enough!Tokyo knew we were about to hit Okinawa, and wanted the carriers destroyed. We were repaired in 2 weeks, and back in combat. The kamikaze hit my Battle station , radio 3. Lucky I was at the movie on hangar deck.
