Worst Moment Dad came back from a Westpac with throat cancer. He eventually made a full recovery with the help of Balboa naval hospital. Very though time for the entire family.
Other Memories We were waiting for dad's boat to dock after his last Westpac when my mom parked in a MCPO reserved parking spot in front of the pier at North Island. Security gave her the tenth degree and my uncle (CDR Larry Harper) just happened to be nearby on the Constallation (CV-64). He took care of the situation and the new Master Chief (dad) came off the boat and commended the sailor for doing his job. Needless to say the guy was trembling, not nessasarrily from my uncle or my dad but from my determined mom who adopted the TOLSON temper over the years.
