VT-31 Wise Owls Details
Training Squadron Thirty-One (VT-31)
VT-31 is one of four aviation training squadrons attached to Training Air Wing FOUR and is one of two advanced multi-engine training squadrons in the Navy.
The squadron has historically trained students from the Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, Air Force and foreign students in all phases of advanced multi-engine flight procedures to include Aircraft Familiarization, Radio Instruments, Airways Navigation, Visual Navigation and Formation flying.
After receiving their "Wings of Gold" or "Silver", the newly designated Military Aviators will head to their particular aircraft, usually a P-3C Orion (Navy), C-130 Hercules (Marine, Coast Guard and Air Force) or HU25 Falcon (Coast Guard).
VT-31 carries a staff composed of approximately 69 officers and 19 enlisted. The squadron utilizes Beechcraft contract maintenance which employs a totally civilian maintenance force. The squadron's primary mission continues to be training Military Aviators.
Upon completion of training students are then qualified designated and winged as aviators in their respective service and then transfer to operational squadrons throughout the world.

Memories For This Unit
Best Friends AMS2 Bob Oswald
Other Memories During this tour my younger sister (Cora Tolson) was born onbase at the Naval Hospital Corpus Christi in the spring of 1974. When my mom went into labor, a friend, along with my brother and I, went over to the onbase fishing pier to tell my dad that my mom was having my sister. When we finally pulled up to the pier to tell him, I remember seeing my dad fishing away with his plumber?s crack visible from a couple blocks away. Dad always went fishing especially if he was overly worried, it was his stress release. I was almost 4 and remember standing in the hospital room after my new sister was born, when my mom noticed I had my left shoe on my right foot and the right shoe on the left foot. She just laughed and looked at my dad, to this day I think my big brother dressed me and dad took the rap. For his part time job, he worked at the fuel farm with some of the best friends he would ever have. He always referred to the VT-31 tour as one of the highlights of his Naval career.
