I started my Military Career in 1958 when the United States actually had a conscription (AKA DRAFT or, the VERY Selective Service System).

Memories For This Unit

Best Friends
SP4 Mike Mitchell of the 15th Cav
SP4 Dave Cooper

Best Moment
Skiing in the Alps at Obersalzburg.

Worst Moment
The notorious Khrushchev shoe-banging incident which occurred during a UN debate on October 11 1960. Infuriated by a statement of the Filipino delegate, Khrushchev accused Mr. Sumulong of being "a jerk, a stooge and a lackey of imperialism". Later Mr. Khrushchev pulled off his right shoe, brandished it at the Philippine delegate on the other side of the hall and banged the shoe on his desk.

We went on full alert and moved to the border expecting the worst.

Chain of Command
7th Army, 4th Armored Division, 46th Med Bn, Company A

Other Memories
4th AD NCO Academy, Neu-Ulm Germany
24th Inf Div Medical Leaders Academy, Augsburg Germany
4th AD Division Trains Rifle team. Couldn't hit my ass with both hands and a scoop shovel, but they needed shooters from the non-combat arms units.

I was actually a SP-4 (E-4) at the time, with an MOS of 911.17 but this web site does not allow for other service rank/MOS structure.
