From its headquarters off Truman Bay, just 26 miles (41 kilometers) due south of Tokyo, the NAVSUP FLC Yokosuka enterprise networks more than 20 detachments, sites and fuel terminals from Misawa, Japan, to Sydney, Australia; Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean to Guam. Together, these detachments and sites provide logistics support to the Navy, Marine Corps, other Department of Defense (DoD) and federal activities within the 7th Fleet Area of Responsibility (AOR).
NAVSUP FLC Yokosuka headquarters in Yokosuka provides policy, direction, and leadership; plus, through its six major departments (Operations, Regional Services, Fuels, Contracting, Support Services and Industrial Support) delivers products and services to all NAVSUP FLC Yokosuka customers. NAVSUP FLC Yokosuka headquarters' detachments, sites and other organizational entities ensure standard processes are employed in the delivery of products and services. This unified approach ensures consistency in customer interface and provides effective and efficient response to customers' needs through leveraged capability, optimized capacity, and integrated communications.
The supply function of Fleet Activities Yokosuka was first created when the U.S. Navy assumed control of Yokosuka Naval Station on August 30,1945. Later, the Korean War logistics requirements mandated a more robust supply system, so the Navy established and commissioned the Naval Supply Depot (NSD) in August 1952. NSD continued to supply the fleet in the Western Pacific through the Vietnam War.
It wasn't until 1993 that NSD's name was changed to Fleet and Industrial Supply Center (FISC) Yokosuka, after assuming additional tasks due to the closure of U.S. facilities in the Philippines and Guam, an increased supply inventory, and the expansion and modernization of information and technology.
Best Friends Evelyn, Art and other friends I made Chief with.
Best Moment Making Chief; seeing Sailors I supervised get promoted.
Worst Moment Bullshit moments with some micro managers not allowing me to really be a Chief at first. Supervised LIMDU pers which came from a mixed background...some not given a fair shake and me being shot down when attempting to support them. Lossing a shipmate during a medical proceedure and watching his best friends toil during this time. Murch, I hope all is better now.
Other Memories Although this tour got bumpy, there were some great Chiefs within the command that helped me cope with the situation. Some great Shipmates outside the mess also.
