I am currently retired, having had a very good career in the United States Navy, followed by another 25 years in the high-tech computer industry doing systems and network administration.
Other Comments:
My son, Gregory John Cook, is currently retired from the US Army as a Master Seargent, and is living and working in Alaska. My wife of 18 wonderful years, Geraldine Diane Whitlach-Cook, passed away on July 8th, 2013 as a result of breast cancer metastesizing to her brain and skeletal system.
Worst Moment The final exam and the daily dialoges.
Chain of Command Student at the US Army's Defense Language Institute, West Coast Branch on the Presidio of Monterey, studying the Vietnamese Language (Southgern Dialect).
Other Memories The great chili, the cold beer, and music by Led Zepplyn at the NCO club! Our class had a party on the beach below Kim Novack's house and she came out and complained about the noise we were making. I also remember the morning one guy came back to the barracks still drunk and held reveille on the base by sticking the speakers of his stereo out the windows and playing Jimmy Hendrick's version of the Star Bangled Banner at full volume. The movie "Kelly's Heroes" was playing at the movie theater in downtown Monterey, but the CO of the base put the theater off limits until the movie's run was over. He also made it mandatory for everyone on the base go to the base theater to watch the movie "Patton"!
