Best Friends "I was not part of the Faculty Staff, but I spent a good portion of a year here so I thought I should comment on this duty station." We were like a family while stationed at NTTC. Many times a group of us would walk into Millington to have something to drink or eat off base. I believe I was there from May 1964 to February 1965 going through "A" and "B" school studyng basic electronics and being trained on pulse and continuous wave radar systems. This also included Sparrow and Sidewinder missiles. From there, I was transfered to Miramar Naval Air Station, where I was assigned to VF121, a training squadron of F4 Phantom Jets.
Best Moment My best moment was being transfered to an active F4 squadron "VF 213". VF 213 was attached to the USS CVA Kitty Hawk, and they were getting ready to leave for the North and South China Sea off of Vietnam a few months after getting transfered to them.
Worst Moment Galley Duty. Everyone had to serve three months in the galley, prepping food, etc. I did this at Miramar Naval Air Station, and for the first couple of months aboard the kitty Hawk
Chain of Command In VF213, I reported to Chief Henry "Hank" Bibeau
Other Memories The comraderie was great! I served with a lot of great people. When we were at our combat station, we all worked hard. If we were caught up with all our tasks, we helped others. The Ordance crew always needed help loading bombs and missiles on planes. We worked 12 hour shifts 7 days a week when we were at sea.
Two years in, I got married and found leaving my wife behind when we went on our deployments was extremely tough. Even when we came back to our home port/base. I still had to leave her when ever my squadron left for training exercises. I really enjoyed the Navy, but all this seperation was why I left after four years.
