Bronze Star
For heroic service as assistant torpedo officer of a United States submarine during an aggressive and highly successful War Patrol in enemy Japanese-controlled waters. By his sound judgment and expert technical skill in supervising the maintenance and operation of the torpedoes and torpedo equipment of his ship, Lt.(jg) Sloggett rendered invaluable assistance to his commanding officer throughout the vital patrol and contributed materially to the sinking and damaging of an important amount of Japanese shipping. His cool courage and unswerving devotion to duty under extremely hazardous conditions were an inspiration to his comrades and in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
