 Additional Information
Last Known Activity:

As a member of the crew of the USS Canopus (AS-9), CMM Fairchild survived the attack by the Japanese on December 29, 1941. The crew continued to fight until there was no hope left and the Canopus was scuttled by her own men on April 9, 1942. The men who sunk their own ship then joined the fighting in Corregidor, where they and the rest of the crew joined with the US Marines and set up beach defenses. CMM Fairchild was killed in action on May 6, 1942.
